Vacancies and Volunteers
The Clinic aspires to provide a sensitive service, responding to the needs
of refugees and asylum seekers. Counselling is provided in the client's
first language wherever possible. Because of this, we are always keen to
take on suitably qualified counsellors or senior trainees with multi-cultural
backgrounds and who can work in a language other than English. We especially
seek counsellors who have languages in addition to those the Clinic currently
offers. If this might be you, please read on.

Demand for the Clinic’s counselling services is expanding and we are regularly seeking people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds who have suitable skills and experience to contribute and are sensitive to the multicultural context of the Clinic’s work. As a guide, you are likely to:
- have a recognized psychotherapy/ counselling qualification or be a
senior student on a recognised diploma training with some clinical experience.
(The Mapesbury Clinic is unlikely to be a suitable option for someone
without some previous experience)
- be able to work in a language other than English
- have direct experience of refugeedom or experience of working with refugees or in other multi-cultural settings.
If you can say yes to the above, can offer two or more client sessions a week, attend regular supervision and commit yourself for at least one year, we would like to hear from you. In addition to the valuable experience afforded by working in the Clinic, we offer access to training, regular supervision and cover travel expenses. We make every effort to be flexible about times of work in order to fit in with your availability.
The core model for counselling and psychotherapy provided at the Clinic is integrative, but we will consider people with a different orientation who have a suitable range of experience and skills to offer. The Clinic’s aim is to ensure that counselling is culturally and linguistically sensitive. The Clinic also need multi-lingual counsellors and therapists willing to use their language skills to interpret during assessments.
