Referrals and Assessment

You can refer yourself or be referred by a practitioner who knows you in a professional capacity.

At present you will probably wait about 4-6 weeks to be assessed. This is dependent on the availability of the assessor who speaks your language.

Although we aspire to a much shorter waiting list due to the high demand for the service and the low level of bilingual and appropriately trained counsellors and psychotherapists the whole process – referral – and assessment can take up to 8 weeks.

Referral

If you wish to access our multicultural and multilingual counselling service, you need to complete the referral form and return it to us. You can find:

Assessment

After we receive your form, an assessment appointment will be made for you. You can wait up to four weeks before you receive information about your appointment for assessment and up to two weeks thereafter for the assessment itself.

Your Appointment

Once the assessor determines that counselling is right for you, we will allocate you to a suitable counsellor as soon as possible. The counsellor will then contact you to arrange your counselling appointment. Depending on the levels of demand for counselling in your language, you may have to wait up to two months to start your counselling.

The whole process from referral to your first counselling session can take two to three months.

Our Commitment

We offer once a week one to one counselling sessions (50 minutes per session) for 12 consecutive weeks.

Fee

The initial assessment interview and the individual counselling session is FREE for asylum seekers and refugees.

A concessionary fee of £10 may be charged per counselling session for refugees who are settled and have an income. This will be negotiated.

Donations are welcome, however small. If you make a donation you will be given a receipt.
